Video to ASCII
A C++ terminal application that turns video frames into ASCII characters using OpenCV and ncurses.
Context
An exploration of how moving images can be represented using a terminal's character grid.
What it does
- Video selection from a built-in menu
- frame resizing and grayscale conversion
- intensity-to-character mapping
- terminal playback
- accompanying audio through miniaudio
Engineering focus
The conversion pipeline connects video decoding, terminal dimensions, character density, and frame timing. It provides a concrete way to examine the tradeoffs between visual detail and the constraints of a text interface.
